Dr. Leakey, a Paleontologist and Environmental Conservationist, was elected Interim Chair of the Steering Committee of TI-Kenya in 2007. He was elected a member of the Board of Directors in September 2007 and is the Chairman of the board. He has been awarded over ten honorary degrees and the Order of the Burning Spear. Dr Leakey is a Professor of Anthropology at the State University of New York and has previously served as the Head of Kenya's Civil Service. He is remembered for tackling mismanagement and corruption related cases in the government during his tenure.
Ms. Mbai, a lawyer by profession, is a Partner at Kaplan and Stratton Advocates. Her portfolio includes property acquisition, disposal and development, property laws and finance, security transactions and documentation for local banks, financiers and borrowers and due diligence reporting. Ms Mbai joined the TI-Kenya Steering Committee in early 2007, was elected as a member of the Board of Directors in September 2007 and currently serves as the Vice Chair.
Ms. Mmbijjiwe sits on the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Kenya. She is also Director and Chairperson of the Board Audit Committee of Bamburi Cement Ltd as well as a member of the Rhodes Scholarship Selection Committee for the Kenya Kenton College Trust. A Chartered Accountant of England and Wales and a Certified Public Accountant-Kenya, she has previously been a Director at the Capital Markets Authority and served in various capacities at the Nairobi stock Exchange. She was elected as a member of the Board of Directors in 2008 and is the current Chair of the Finance Sub-committee of TI-Kenya.
Mrs. Musundi is a former Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Vice President and Ministry of Home Affairs, Heritage and Sports. Mrs. Musundi has twice served as the Executive Director of the Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organization (MYWO) the largest women’s NGO in Eastern Africa. She is currently serving as a member of Strathmore University Council and is a also a member of the council of Regina Pacis University College a constituent college of the Catholic University of East Africa. She previously represented African women co-operative members on the International Co-operative Alliance’s Global Women Committee for 20 years, seven of which she served as its Vice President. Mrs. Musundi is also currently working as a consultant in creating linkages between communities, development agencies and donor partners. She holds a B.A (Hon.) and M.A degrees in addition to extensive professional training in Adult Education, Marketing, Business Administration and Co-operative Management from local and foreign institutions of higher learning. She joined the TI-Kenya board in April 2010.
Mr. Amin is a partner with Omar Kemal Amin & Company Advocates, a practice he established in 1994. He has also worked with Consultant Legal Advisors and Property Managers, Hilton Nairobi Limited since 1992. He is an Alternate Director on the Board of Directors of International Hotels Kenya Limited (nominated by Hilton International Company). Mr. Amin earned his law degree from the University of Buckingham, England. He is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a Barrister-At-Law of Lincoln’s Inn. He joined the TI-Kenya board in April 2010.
Ms. Ikal Angelei is a Kenyan environmentalist. She currently serves as the Program Coordinator at Turkana Basin Initiative. She is the founder and director of Friends of Lake Turkana, Kenya, which works to promote and strengthen community participation and indigenous knowledge in the sustainable use, management and protection of the environment and natural resources.
She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance Option) from the University of Nairobi and Master of Arts in Public Policy from the State University of New York, Stony Brook. Ikal also holds a Diploma in Integrated Water Resource Management from the United Nations University (Water Learning Centre) as well as a Diploma in Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Audit from the University of Nairobi.
Ms. Angelei joined the Transparency International-Kenya board in 2012.
