The Anti-Money Laundering and Combating of Terrorism Financing Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025, introduced in the National Assembly and read for the first time on 4th March 2025, seeks to amend and introduce new provisions across various laws to strengthen Kenya’s efforts against money laundering, terrorism financing, and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction — in alignment with recommendations from the Eastern and Southern Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group (ESAAMLG).
In March, TI-Kenya made submissions to the Departmental Committee on Justice & Legal Affairs on the Bill.
The Committee has released its report, which acknowledges several proposals submitted by TI-Kenya, both independently and through the Civil Society Parliamentary Network (CSPEN).
A number of CSPEN proposals were adopted and the proposals not taken up — including those submitted solely by TI-Kenya — have been noted for future consideration and may be introduced through a separate legislative process.
