Given the outbreak of Covid 19 around the world, most countries declared state of emergencies to deal with the pandemic. The world was caught unawares by the virus. In Africa, to deal with the pandemic, African Countries sought financing from international institutions to help in managing the pandemic. Over 100 billion$ of emergency resources were sought from international institutions and donors. Countries in managing the pandemic relaxed their public finance and procurement Laws and policies.

Therefore the AUABC, which is the organ mandated to monitor the implementation of the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption, initiated the Transparency and accountability mechanisms in monitoring expenditure, procurement processes, and impact on lives and livelihoods of COVID-19 funds and grants in AU member states that are party to the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption (AUCPCC) project to engage with ongoing accountability issues arising from management of COVID 19 funds. The main objective of the project is to provide a framework for consultation and interaction between the African Union Advisory Board on Corruption (AUABC) and National Anti-Corruption Authorities (NACA) and respective CSOs to enable the latter play their role as a bulwark against attempt at corruption in the management of funds and grants allocated to combat COVID-19.
